Women of The Year
Why you so mad? |
Everyone is so upset about Caitlyn Jenner winning a Woman of the Year award. You morons. You freaking morons.
Glamour honored multiple women in multiple categories. It's now called the "Women of the Year" awards for a reason. The category Caitlyn won from? The Transgender Champion.
Other winners:
Misty Copeland, The Showstopper. Prima Ballerina. She was promoted to principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, the first African American ballerina to reach that level in the elite classical ballet company’s 75-year history.
Cecile Richards: The Health Advocate Yes, the Planned Parenthood woman, who stood up for women's rights to healthcare and debunked nasty rumors about her organization.
The women of Charleston who survived the hate-motivated mass murder at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church; then continued to preach forgiveness.
Elizabeth Holmes: The Entrepreneur. A woman who encourages women to enter science, math, and engineering fields with no fear or shame. At 20, Elizabeth Holmes dropped out of Stanford University to devote every waking moment to her fledgling business. Its goal? Both to revolutionize ordinary blood tests, and to change the control average citizens have over their health. Today, Holmes, 31, is the youngest self-made female billionaire in the world.
The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, who showed women can and will excel in sports, if they give the effort needed to achieve their dreams.
Reese Witherspoon: The Hollywood Hero. Disgusted at the lack of lead roles for women, she started her own production company.
Victoria Beckham: The Fashion Force. She not only designs clothing, but as an international goodwill ambassador for UNAIDS, she has raised millions to benefit HIV and AIDS charities including amfAR, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and Mothers 2 Mothers.
All of these women were honored. All of them. Caitlyn didn't "steal" an award from a "real" (fuck everyone who uses that term) woman. She won because what she did was transition late in life and did it publicly. Which gave many trans* people hope and inspiration in their own lives. I've seen the argument of giving it to someone who has "been trans* longer".... little newsflash here: they've all been trans* their entire lives. It's not something you just wake up to and go "I'm in the wrong body.." it's something you feel every single day of your life. For those of you that think Laverne Cox should have won instead: she did. Last year.
Every woman named was honored.
Every woman named was honored.
And if that's not enough to make you reconsider your misguided transphobic hate have this: it's just a fucking awards show where you win an honestly quite ugly sculpture award. Why the hell does that affect your own mundane life so much?
Seriously, why you so mad? |
Yesssssssss. I feel the exact same way. Why hate someone who has struggled their whole life to be who they want to be?! You took the words right out of my mouth!
ReplyDeleteExactly. I think most people are just upset because she's associated with the Kardashians and it's "in" to hate on them lately.
